We love October • We have had a hard summer with our gardens submitting to the indignities of going brown and crispy. Now we have reached the cool of October and many of us are quite relieved to be reaching for a jumper. One thing that I have learned this year is that gardening is metamorphosing: some of the plants that we could rely on 10 years ago to perform well and give us a long season of colour are not coping with stretches of drought and heatwave. In the long term, our gardens will be fine – we will just have to change the way we do some things.
